Thinking about his friends' marriages, Allen wonders if the uncanny similarities all relationships seem to have means that there is a mysterious mathematical formula that could analyze and predict the outcome of relationships. Sharing a personal family story, he discusses the probability that old, archaic southern traditions about marriage lead to disastrous outcomes.
